Themes  

Grief- the book shows how grief can consume us. How it can affect our relationships with other people and how badly it hurts to lose something so close to our heart.
Never give up- Mr. Fisher set his mind to sell the summer house but Belly, Jeremiah, Conrad and Laurel against all odds convinced him to not do so. This shows how even when we have low chances of winning, we should fight till last and never give up.
Growing up- the life of Belly is shown in the book. All her stages of life and how she grew up both physically and mentally.
Holding onto memories- though people go, but their memories stay with us. Either we can cry over the lost ones or we can hold onto the good memories and live with the memories for that person. And if we think though our loved ones would want us to choose the latter.
Death- every human has to die. But death ends the life of a person, not a relationship. And sometimes the death of a person can affect several relationships.

Characters 

Bella Conklin- a teenager unsure of her own feelings. The most relatable character and sweetheart of everyone. She may have complications with her feelings but she knows how to hold onto people.
Steven Conklin- the best brother and the best friend anyone can have. Not only was he with her sister supporting her but when his friends needed him, he was there too.
Jeremiah Fisher- the most lived boy of the entire series. He gives those golden retriever vibes and is the most charming and cute boy. He is always there to save people whenever they need him.
Conrad Fisher- the grumpy brother who keeps his feelings to himself. His aloofness and at the same time his hotness is way too appealing. His character comes out more closed in this one.
Laurel- Steven and Belly’s mother and a divorced woman who is financially independent and knows what she wants. A problem solver and the support system of everyone.
Susannah- Jeremiah and Conrad’s mother. She is definitely the heart of the family.
Fisher- Jeremiah and Conrad’s dad. Though he thinks he is doing what is good for their sons but instead ends up neglecting the perspective of his sons.

Best Lines

Conclusion  
It’s not summer without you is a bit more serious than the previous book. It has major serious themes and the plot too is intriguing. The whole book will definitely keep you hooked up and there will be instances when you will judge the choices of the protagonists but the reason that she is flawed is why all the teenage girls can relate to her.
